Course Description:
This is an excellent preparatory course for Radiographers, Radiation Safety Officers & prepares to
write Certified Exposure Device Operator (CEDO) exam
on radiation safety in Industrial Radiography.
The objective is to provide basic understanding of
radiation and Radiography Testing. Course provides
knowledge in the Safe Operation of the Exposure Devices,
associated Safety Equipments, Principles of Radiation
Protection and the Procedures to be followed in the
event of Exposure Device Accidents. The Course also
familiarizes with the Atomic Energy Control Board
& Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission’s relevant
Regulations & Regulatory Guide.

Training can be conducted at the Institute or at the
Client’s location.
Course Content:
1) Introduction: History & discovery of Radioactive
materials.
2) Definition of Industrial Radiography
3) Review of Mathematics used in Industrial Radiography
4) Fundamental Properties of Matter: Atomic structure,
Isotopes.
5) Radiation & Radioactivity: Interaction of Radiation
with Matter, Ionization, Radiation Units
6) Radiation Detection & Measurement: Principles
& Operation of Exposure Devices & Associated
Equipment, Use of Remote Handing Tool,
7) Monitoring for Radiation: Survey Meter, Personnel
Dosimeters, TLD, DRD, PAD. Maintenance & Calibration.
8) Biological Effects of Radiation: Sources of Radiation,
Types of Effects, Health Effects fro Ionizing Radiation,
9) Controlling Radiation Exposure: ALARA, Using Time,
Distance & Shielding.
10) Standard Operating Procedures: Operating principles
of Cable-Operated Exposure Devices
11) Gamma Radiography Exposure Devices: Principles
of Operation, Normal Operating Procedures.
12) Emergency Operating Procedures including Practical
Exercises: Recognizing Emergency Situations, Emergency
Equipment, STAR principle.
13) Transportation Requirements for Radioactive Sources:
Receipt & Shipment.
14) Regulations of Atomic Energy Control Board &
Act.
